"Super book, so I will be keeping & treasuring it" (CJS, Sherborne, Dorset). "The book is brilliant, it is so easy to read, the words just flow" (PAH, Halifax, Yorks). "May we congratulate you on what is a magnificent achievement" (D & LS, Washington, Durham). "I've just finished Those Were the Days A jolly good read … I hope [it] is a huge success and appreciated amongst the Smallbones. I know I'm very appreciative of all the work you've put into the research and the fact it's so well written" (JH, Liverpool).
"It is a truly remarkable document and one to make any serious family historian jealous. You have done what so many people only dream about, since although many start a family history, few succeed in completing it. I like the format with the potted biographies and excellent illustrations. The candour with which you described some of your relatives made it compelling reading. I will be pleased to review the book for the Hampshire Family Historian and will urge anyone with Smallbone connections to obtain a copy. Good luck and thanks for giving me the opportunity to read the best family history I have seen for years " (Len Ruffell, Chairman, Hampshire Genealogical Society) - See Book Reviews, The Hampshire Family Historian (Journal of the Hampshire Genealogical Society), March 2008, Volume 34, No. 4, p 272.
