Detailed Description

This pedigree traces the Brown family from Basingstoke in 1640, through several generations to the last of the family born at Brown's Farm in Baughurst in the late nineteenth century. The research had utilised court rolls, wills, and Quaker records, as well as later parish registers and various other legal documents. The story of their ancestors - the Potter family of Baughurst - forms the basis of the book "James Potter, Quaker - A History of Dissent in the 17th and 18th Centuries", which records, among other things, the wholesale persecutions of the Anglican Church against nonconformists during the Restoration period, and how the dissenters changed society.
