WELCOME TO THE CHANGING SEASONS
The website that deals with the histories of the places and people in
NORTHERN HAMPSHIRE IN ENGLAND
Want to know more about the area?
Was this the home of your ancestors?
If so, then this is the site to see
THE CHANGING SEASONS is the trade name being used by historian and author KEN SMALLBONE to publish his own private research of local places and people in northern Hampshire. The proceeds from the sales of such items go towards the general maintenance and upkeep of this site.
As a seasoned professional historian and genealogist he has been able to show that the fortunes of families had waxed and waned over the years - not only in northern Hampshire, but elsewhere in the wide world . In effect, such changes of fortune could be likened to the changing of seasons: Spring and Summer being continuously followed by Autumn and Winter, and then, hopefully, by a new Spring once again. Hence, the name of this website reflects the cycles that were generally experienced by the families of northern Hampshire and elsewhere.
The area that is covered by these publications is equally changeable. Northern Hampshire contains a few large towns, along with several smaller conurbations - but most of the area is essentially rural. From the woodlands in the east the landscape of northern Hampshire rises towards the Hampshire or Kingsclere Downs in the west; from the small hills around Winchester it progresses northwards to the semi-flat and canal-bound parishes of southern Berkshire.
